Lower-limb hypopallesthesia: A risk factor for falls in cognitively intact non-diabetic older adults

چکیده
Peripheral neuropathies (PN) in older adults often involve altered vibrational perception, i.e. hypopallesthesia. The main objective of this cross-sectional study was to determine whether age-related lower-limb hypopallesthesia is associated with a history falls cognitively intact non-diabetic adults. population comprised 157 people (mean, 71.5 ± 3.8years, 45.3 % female, 19.7 falls). Fallers more exhibited than non-fallers (13.3 versus 1.6 %, P = 0.04). Multiple logistic regression showed that (odds ratio (OR) 19.5 [95 confidence interval (CI): 2.7–143.7], 0.004) the sample

Falls and postural control in older adults with cataracts
Background: There is increasing evidence that visual impairment contribute to falling. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of vision impairment of old adult patients with cataract on the occurrence of falls and postural control. Methods:According to the results of screening ophthalmic examination, 48 cataract patients (mean±SD aged 68.5 ± 6.08 yrs.) and 50 individuals withou...
متن کاملCarotid sinus syndrome: a modifiable risk factor for nonaccidental falls in older adults (SAFE PACE).
OBJECTIVES The aim of the study was to determine whether cardiac pacing reduces falls in older adults with cardioinhibitory carotid sinus hypersensitivity (CSH). BACKGROUND Cardioinhibitory carotid sinus syndrome causes syncope, and symptoms respond to cardiac pacing. There is circumstantial evidence for an association between falls and the syndrome. METHODS A randomized controlled trial wa...

متن کاملInterventions incorporating physical and cognitive elements to reduce falls risk in cognitively impaired older adults: a systematic review protocol.
BACKGROUND Cognitive impairment is a risk factor for falls. Older adults with cognitive impairment (such as dementia) have an increased risk of falling compared with age-matched individuals without a cognitive impairment. To reduce falls in this population, interventions could theoretically target and train both physical and cognitive abilities. Combining and addressing cognitive components in ...
